Time has always determined Kohira’s artwork, in which it decelerates for greater proximity to the velocity of matter, which can be incredibly slow, but never ceases to exist. Matter evolves over hundreds and thousands of years, in cycles intrinsic to its grand metamorphoses. Matter decomposes, regenerates, concentrates, explodes, or transmutes into coal, energy, and carbon dioxide. It changes and transforms. It lives. “The entire ecosystem is of interest to me”, says Atsunobu Kohira. He chooses to leave room for the senses to reach the primary truth of the body, its perceptions. The recording of time landscapes, the use of sound, the emphasis on the thought of the matter are at the core of his work. Regularly, Atsunobu Kohira works on the visual materialization of the sound in connection with the photographed image, especially with the landscape.

Atsunobu Kohira is a visual artist born in Hiroshima in 1979, who graduated from Beaux-Arts in Paris (workshop Giuseppe Penone, 2006) and Le Fresnoy (2010). He exhibited in prestigious institutions such as Palais de Tokyo (with the Hermès Foundation), FRAC Franche Comté, Maison Européenne de la Photographie, Picasso Museum...
