Elizaveta Konovalova combines field work and documentary research to trace connections between singular situations and broader historical and political contexts. She often uses found material, textual and visual, to construct new narratives, embodied in the forms that she elaborates by montage. Her works include installations, film- and photography-based works, site-specific interventions.

Elizaveta Konovalova was born in Moscow in 1986. She studied at the National school of fine arts of Paris, at Jean-Luc Vilmouth’s studio. Between 2014 and 2018 she conducted a practice-based PhD within SACRe program, at the PSL university. Her long term research was dedicated to the study of a particular territory, Kaliningrad, Russian enclave inside Eastern Europe. Elizaveta successfully defended her PhD in 2018, presenting an exhibition and a publication, united with a same title : “K”.
Elizaveta’s practice is punctuated by projects, accomplished within art residencies in Russia (National Center for contemporary art in Kronstadt, and ZARYA center for contemporary art in Vladivostok), Germany (Frise Künstlerhaus in Hambourg), Finland (HIAP, Helsinki), Switzerland (NAIRS center for contemporary art in Scuol), and France (La Malterie, Lille). She won the of Sciences Po Prize for contemporary art (2014), and the Talent d’Eau Prize of François Schneider foundation (2015), twice laureate of the international exhibition of young art Jeune Creation (Prix Bœsner and Coup de Cœur Yvon Lambert, 2013). Elizaveta is also finalist of Palais de Tokyo Friends' Prize (2014), and of the SAM prize for contemporary art (2017).
In 2020, she won the Innovatsia award, a state prize for contemporary art in Russia, in the nomination “New generation”.
