After studying philosophy at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris and the City College of New York, Laurent Goldring switched to an artistic practice intersecting the fields of video, photography, cinema, and dance. His work garnered immediate interest: a solo exhibition at the Centre Pompidou in 2002, two articles by Laurence Louppe and Laurent Goumarre in Artpress, and an interview by Françoise Parfait contributed to his growing recognition. He was quickly featured in major events: Venice Biennale (‘’Der Bau’’ and ‘’Collective Jumps’’, 2016), Garage, Moscow (‘’Collective Jumps’’, 2016), Le Bal (‘’Cesser d’être un’’, 2016), Jeu de Paume (‘’Broken Loops’’, 2014), MoMA PS1 (‘’La Rencontre’’, 2014), Gulbenkian Foundation (‘’Sculpture mobile #4’’, 2002), Musée National d’Art Moderne (‘’Expo N°26’’, 2002)...

His images of the human body—videos and photographs—question viewing habits and the standardization of images. Closely linked to the world of dance, they have influenced many choreographers. He was directly involved in the creation of Xavier Le Roy’s performances ‘’Blut and Boredom’’, ‘’Ectoderme’’, and ‘’Self-Unfinished’’ (1996-1998), as well as Maria-Donata d’Urso’s ‘’Pezzo 0 (uno et due)’’ (2002). He then co-signed several works, including ‘’rrr... (reading readings reading)’’ (2001), ‘’Is you me’’ (2008), and ‘’Squatting Project’’ (2012-2016) with Benoît Lachambre, Saskia Hölbling, and Louise Lecavalier; ‘’Figures’’ (2008) with Germana Civera; ‘’Unturtled’’ (2009/2012), ‘’Der Bau’’ (2013), and ‘’Collective Jumps’’ (2014) with Isabelle Schad; and ‘’Ouvrir le temps’’ (2014) with Eva Klimackova.

In 2016-2017, the Palais de Tokyo exhibited a monumental installation featuring his body-loop videos, while Le Bal (Paris) and Garage (Moscow) presented living sculptures—performances inside sculpted or woven spaces. In 2018-2019, he created ‘’Fauteuils’’ at Uzès Danse and the Potager du Roi (Château de Versailles), which was reinstalled in 2020 in the monumental hall of FRAC Franche-Comté. In 2021, he completed an experimental animated film with Louise Lecavalier.

He is currently working on a five-year project at the Centre Pompidou, which will result in a presentation at the Grand Palais in 2027 and an exhibition at the Pompidou Museum for its reopening. In 2025, FRAC Franche-Comté dedicated a solo exhibition to him, Un homme qui dort, which will be followed by a retrospective at MAC VAL in 2026.
